Compo Grande

4 eternities of turbulent flying, 3 flat tyres, 2 hundred degrees celcius and 1 million mosquito bites later and we've returned from the Amazon Basin to La Paz. Good times. Pink dolphins are sweet.

As excited as I am to be in La Paz, I have to express my JEALOUSY that WhoMadeWho are playing Sydney this weekend (Saturday the 31st of Jan) at the Oxford Art Factory. I've frothed over them since the release of their brilliant debut album and still haven't had the chance to see them in the flesh. Seriously devo. However, I do have a couple of double passes to give away for the show so if you're around and you're not a complete donkey, email me your full name and answer this super tough question:

Are the Presets gay?

Who cares, really? ALSO ALSO ALSO, two weeks after on the 14th of Feb, also at the OAF, Sweat It Out's latest signee EDU K from Brazil (tehe I'll be there soon) will be busting out some fidgety tunes alongside Ajax and MC Gaff-E. I don't have any way of sharing any of his choonz, but hit up his myspace. If you're keen, also swing me an email with your full name and answer this brain bending piece of trivia:

What is the difference between a crocodile and an aligator?

Because I'd actually like to know the answer to that and don't feel like looking it up myself.

Like I said, I'm not able to download or upload any music here, so I'll just repost the only WhoMadeWho tracks I've put up before for the sake of it. BOO HOO.

Munk - Kick Out The Chairs (WhoMadeWho Remix)

WhoMadeWho - TV Friend (Hot Chip Remix)

WhoMadeWho - Flat Beat

Another dig from the vault: I love The Juan Maclean. Lotsies. GMELT has to have one of the coolest basslines ever manifested, no? Such a fun, irresistable song. I've also always liked the Cajmere mix - bit of a closet fan of the whole jackin' Chicago House thing, and this one is nice and twisted. The Marcus Worgull remix of the Simple Life is a chilled little expeditition to groove out to in a hammock somewhere. There are so many hammocks in South America, it's wonderful.

Happy Australia Day! Except it's not still Aus day in Aus anymore. But it is here. So chill. K.. Send entries in sooooooon so I can get it all sorted.

Bongoooos

Wheee just got back from doing the Inca Trail. So belted.. Was really super beautiful and all that. In Cusco at the moment, can't walk up a flight of stairs without panting and keeling over. Definitely keen for some sea level action in a few weeks. Miss you oxygen! Cusco is really amazing, such a stunning city. Hitting up Bolivia in a week or so, any recommendations?

Anywho, Zongamin is an artist I've always been really intrigued by. His one fleeting but great release on Ed Banger, Bongo Song, got punished by DJs all around the world but I don't think the rest of his stuff is nearly as well known. And it definitely should be! I wouldn't know what genre to label the music, nor would I really want to. Painless is a semi-haunting ambient number with gorgeous production and an irresistable bass, whilst his Manila remix is more upbeat and partyish, again with killer bassline included. It's clear he's a really talented, original and creative producer who I really need to check out more of. You like?

Clásico

Mmmmm Santiago is a really cool city, albeit a bit too Western. Can't wait for some supercheap action in Peru and Bolivia. Anyway I'm really tired and hungover so commentary will be scarce.

Check out a couple of these awesome classics if you haven't already. Like so awesome it's just wacko. The Crass Version of LCD Soundsystem mulls around an extremely groovy disco vibe before gradually picking up steam and somehow mutates into an electro semibanger with screetching Soulwax synths. An odyssey of awesome, and the vocals are just irresistable. The Young Punx remix of Seven Nation Army (a song which I wish had been remixed a whole lot more) is a huge summery funky/club house explosion which never really saw the light of day aside from on Kissatlanta (props!) a few years ago. Can't for the life of me understand why, I would have expected it to crush clubs in 05 or 06. See what you reckon.

LCD Soundsystem - Yeah (Crass Version)

The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army (Young Punx Remix)

The Holy Ghost! remix of Goblin City would have been just about my favourite song of 2008 if it had been released in 2008 not 2007. So I was a bit late... What's new? However, I haven't really noticed much talk of the Run Roc remix which is certainly not without its own charm. I'm assuming Run Roc is some kind of small label who may occasionally do mixes under the Run Roc name, not unlike DFA - am I right? Anyway, this is a really nice smooth groove to kick back to.

Panthers - Goblin City (Run Roc Remix)

Hope you're all enjoying 09 so far. Any new fads popped up in the last few weeks/blog centuries since I've been away? Any predictions? What's next?

Eurodentists

Happy new year cats and kittens! In Bariloche at the moment, such an amazingly beautiful place. Pretty surreal. Have been without internet and phone reception for a while until getting here, hence the delay in postage. Enjoying litre beers for under $2 AUS (probably about $1 US) yumyumyumyumyumyumyum.

Anyway, I'm really excited about 2009. In particular, I'm looking at Mock & Toof to continue to rise up and create more stunning music and join in setting the nu disco trend. Black Jub is like a cosmic 80s video game discotheque jam which I really find irresistable. Love the fun in their music. For some reason the Dondolo remix isn't on my ipod and I can't for the life of me remember what it sounds like, but I'm sure if I put it in here I really dug it. Underwater is a cool laid-back aquatic indiedisco tune with nice light vocals. I reckon they'll be really worth looking out for in 09, I'm expecting big things!

Mock & Toof - Black Jub

Dondolo - Tetanus Crisis (Mock & Toof Remix)

Mock & Toof - Underwater

Hope you all had a crazy NYE. I most certainly did. BE GOOD YO!
