Hallelujah!

It's a great day! At last I'm uncapped, AND I found 2 tracks I've been frothing over for EVER which, prior to this afternoon, I haven't known the track names or artists. Big big thanks to an anonymous caller for sorting out the first one which featured in Paul T's Beats In Space mix. Turns out the track is a remix by his partner in crime, Harvey. Both are the mad scientists behind Harvey Sarcastic Disco. The original track by Tommy Guerrero is also a beauty and well worth checking out - I'd never heard his music before but it sounds divine. Enjoy :)

Tommy Guerrero - Archaic Days (Harvey Remix)

The other was another tune I heard on a Beats In Space podcast, this time from In Flagranti's visit in 08. It's the first tune that's played before anything happens and again there was no tracklisting. Feel like a complete tool now finding out it's actually an In Flagranti track from one of the Codek 'Sounds Superb' records - not to be confused with the edits album which IF put out in January this year. Anyway here's the track I was looking for plus another from the edits album which I just lurrrve. Can't wait to see Alex and Sasha next weekend after We Love Sounds at The Cross!

In Flagranti - Low Dose Virility

In Flagranti - Mini Sell

I'm going to leave it there because these incredible tracks are worth 100 times their weight in kilobytes. YUM YUM YUMMO.

Ground To A Halt

Well my internet is capped at the moment so this will just be a scraping together of whatever I've already got - searching for music in this state is pure agony. It's put me in an extremely impatient mood so I'm just going to fly through these with minimal effort. Soz.

This really doesn't need any caption attached. It's as classic as songs come and it's a Terje edit so it sounds fantastic in a club or in your car or on a boat or on an elephant or anywhere on the planet. The end.

Stealers Wheel - Stuck In The Middle With You (Todd Terje Edit)

Great old techy kinda song from a few years ago, picked up the record for $1 over in Auckland and have reignited my lurve for it. Âme are beautiful producers and this is a really beautiful song. All dark and brooding and stormy. Quality music.

Âme - Rej

Chug chug chug chug this Lovefingers tune from his RVNG release yonks back is like a slow but determined funky disco steam train. Great tune!

Lovefingers - Kentucky

For the sake of adding another track, and to be a self-indulgent twat, here's a mashup I did of Metro Area, In Flagranti, Holy Ghost!, Barbara Norris and The Rapture. Would love some feedback if anyone's interested?

Andy Webb - Hold On To That Heavy Orange Box

The Revenge plays in Sydney this sunday at the next Picnic warehouse party. And so do Dangerous Dan, Tim from Cut Copy, Loin Brothers, Ash Le Rouge, and so on. Will be spectacular. Details here.

Give me a week and I'll be back in full force. Be good!

Clap Clap Records

The latest Tiny Sticks 12" came out recently - Old Sequencer - and I can happily confess I think it's the best record I've heard this year. Clap Rules are the bandits responsible for this superb piece of wax goodness - a trio featuring mastermind producer Fabrizio Mammarella. The A-side is just so dark and groovy and masterfully detailed. The sounds and instrumentation are unreeeal! All three tracks on the single have their own unique character and gallop over a whole range of genres without ever being tied down by one sound. It's the first release by this little project and I desperately hope they dish more out. You MUST buy it here.

Clap Rules - Old Sequencer

Was really pleasantly surprised by The Emperor Machine's latest single too. Although I've always liked him as a producer, and I like that he has a very distinguishable sound, it's become a bit tired and overworked in my mind. So it's super cool to hear something like You Clapper, the other track on the record. Killer disco sounds with an Emperor twist. I really hope he does more stuff like this - for once it seems like he's trying to explore something new. Groovie!

The Emperor Machine - You Clapper

This House of House tune which came out on Whatever We Want a few months ago (how did I miss this?) is a shining example of perfect house music. Seriously, the genre doesn't get much better. This patiently spread out epic oh so slowly builds up to big piano anthem status with beautiful vocals and once it does it's pure bliss, basking in pure house awesomeness. Sorry about the rip, it's the best I could find and I can't afford to pick up a copy right this minute since WWW records cost about 4 fingers and an ear each.

House of House - Rushing to Paradise (Walkin' These Streets)

Tomorrow night is Ram Jam's first birthday at Candy's. So sad that I won't be there to bust out some daringly stupid tunes and instead have to brave the ridiculously bitter Auckland autumn, but it's guaranteed to be craazy fun. Those of you in Syd, go loosen up and have a jig and get those ears bleeding. There will be lots of balloons and stuff.

Edits etc.

Disco edits are indeed a wonderful thing. Whilst it's great to hear good 100% fresh music, there's almost an infinite amount of killer muzak from way back which is begging to be tweaked for the club. Look, here are some now! (Great segue there!) Posted one of Loud Minority Radio's edits a little while back and was stoked when these popped into my inbox a week or two ago. Both great selections and both edited really nicely. Rock solid.

Kano - Can't Hold Back (LMR Edit)

Dynasty - I Don't Want To Be A Freak (LMR Edit)

Really enjoying this Paradise Lost edit, the dull quality is a bit annoying but it's a top quality tune. I don't know much about PL except that they run disco warehouse parties in Sydney and will hopefully be doing some more releases like this bad boy. Check out the other tunes here and pick up the ultra limited 12"!

Paradise Lost - NY

And since that last Frankie Valli edit got such a good response, I might as well post another edit which Pilooski did which I, again, only found recently. It's also quite fantastic. Not quite as much energy or oomph but still a wonderfully crafted edit of a great classic. Yeah yeah yeah good good good yum yum yum.

Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons - The Night (Pilooski Re-Edit)

Ok this is completely unrelated, but I've been trying to find this track forever and I'm now going all out in hope that someone can ID it for me. It's the first track from Paul T's Beats In Space mix in July last year, for which he didn't give a tracklisting. This song is so beautifully produced, I must must must get my hands on a 320 or wax copy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

??? - Mystery Track

I'm popping over to Auckland for the week, can anyone recommend any supercool nights to check out? Haven't really ever been out properly in NZ so need some advice.

Hidden Favourites

Boy do I have a burner of a post for you lucky cats! I spent a while rummaging around for older or less obvious stuff by some of my favourite artists and came up with some absolute rippers! This Zongamin track is a prime place to start - jam packed with his signature quirk and cute bass sound. Plenty of different little sections and motifs popping up in this bad boy, it's a bit of an odyssey really considering it's only a 5 minute song. So badly want to uncover more of these Zonga-gems.

Zongamin - Tunnel Music

Pilooski could edit a piece of dog shit into a solid gold bar. Not that the songs he edits are ever bad to begin with but that's how I'd measure his talent. And there's so much of his stuff floating around you can always find something new if you've got the patience to look. These two tunes aren't particularly well hidden or anything but they're new to me so I figured I'd share. He's done a great job of turning Who Loves You into an absolute disco steam train, giving it some beefy biceps. The Nina Simone tune is from one of the old Verve Remixed albums. I really can't understand why I never got any of them during my big jazz obsession a few years ago, but better late than never. Both big big tunes, both awesome.

Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons - Who Loves You (Pilooski Re-Edit)

Nina Simone - Take Care of Business (Pilooski Remix)

Mock & Toof's unique brand of buoyant semi-psychedelic disco has had me frothing since day one. Here we see three perfect specimens which will stand as proof why. Big Hands is a typical strutty disco number of theirs which I must have missed a while back, super super groovy. This amazing dub version of Underwater, already a big fave of mine, is a totally sublime nautical jam sesh that makes me want to whack off a sea cucumber. And I really love the way they've dressed Hot Chip up in a spooky little halloween outfit for some excellent october clubbing. I'm still convinced they're some of the cleverest producers around at the moment.

Mock & Toof - Big Hands For A Lady

Mock & Toof - Underwater (Alternative Dub Version)

Hot Chip - Over and Over (Mock & Toof Dub Mix)

Was really enjoying listening to Rub-N-Tug's latest appearance on Beats In Space and it reminded me of their LCD Soundsystem remix which I'd completely forgotten about. Too Much Love is probably my favourite LCD track and I really like the way they've twisted it and made it a few shades darker. I've been struggling to find a good quality version of the extended disco dub of Beat Connection and haven't had much luck. I guess being the first LCD single I'm not really sure how good the quality should actually be, but hope this one is acceptable. And the live version of Us vs Them is far beyond acceptable. I cannot believe I've never had the chance to see James and his merry men in the flesh! Brilliant stuff.

LCD Soundsystem - Too Much Love (Rub-N-Tug Remix)

LCD Soundsystem - Beat Connection (Extended Disco Dub)

LCD Soundsystem - Us vs Them (Live on KCRW)

Finally, Le Rouge (the artist formerly known as Ash Le Rouge) and Neil Up are starting up a new night in Sydney called Late Notice which you need to go to if you want to keep your friends. Aside from said founders, the bill also features 77 heartthrobs Sunday School and ex-DD famed Trentertainment. Best ever. Yum yum yum listen to Ash's latest mix for the night and his fun Lost Valentinos remix, then start crossing off the days until friday. It's downstairs at the Gaff on Oxford St. Inspect the flyer for all the deets. GO.

Ash Le Rouge - Lil' A Mix

Lost Valentinos - Midnights (Le Rouge & Serge's 'Happy Hacienda' Remix)

Has anyone else tried these fancy new sour apple tic tacs? My tongue is so sore after eating two packets today, way too addictive.

Not Worth Giving This A Title

Sorry folks, it's been a pretty uninspiring week. Haven't really come across anything that's rocked my boat... The new In Flagranti album was officially released which is good news for all - go forth and buy buy buy! Rock solid from the duo and, as expected, the more listens the better it gets. For me though, I find most of the songs aren't as good when taken out of the context of the album - which says good things about the album but isn't too handy for blogging. See if this works for you but whatever the outcome, grab the album anyway :)

In Flagranti - Svelte Blonde

Permanent Vacation, probably my favourite label, also released a really nice selection of past releases during the week: Selected Label Works No. 1. Plenty of beautiful old faves here - Lullabies In The Dark, Todd Terje, Junior Boys, Holy Ghost!, Woolfy ee tea sea. I've posted the Superpitcher remix of Iridium before and had to take it down, so just check out a 160 version of it then go grab it off Beatport or somewhere, along with the rest of the release. This track is just perfect. Stunning dreamy epic balearia, if I'm allowed to make that word up.

Lullabies In The Dark - Iridium (Superpitcher Remix)

Woah, until this very moment I had no idea Space were still making records! Can someone confirm that any of their stuff on Nang Records is actually new? I had no idea these crazy old Frenchies made it past the early 80s - and listening to these new tracks it seriously doesn't sound like they ever did. For those of you who aren't familiar with the band, they're responsible for possibly the greatest video clip ever. Be careful, it's some pretty high tech shit and contains some pretty questionable instrument playing and dance moves. I'm way too confused about their listings on Beatport and whatever else I can find so instead of being riskay I'll post something I KNOW is old. Space are fun.

Space - Tango In Space

Serge Santiago and Hardrock Striker have a new little 12" out, and I don't really like it that much. What's the deal? Nice production and all but just seems a bit boring to me. Maybe I'm not digging deep enough but I'm not nearly as excited by it as I am his older tunes. I have so much love for SS but recently his stuff have been a little hit and miss for me. Snap up these classic reworkings which have a nice retro disco air. Solid.

Kano - It's A War (Serge Santiago UK Re-Edit)

Serge Santiago - Black Jack (Alternative Mix)

Yeah I really don't have anything else worth sharing. This Sunday, disco enterprise Picnic are hosting a warehouse BBQ/danceathon in St Peters with a list of Sydney's finest turntable operators - Mark Murphy, Spruce Lee, Kato, Disco Not Disco AND SO ON. Can't recommend this enough. Gogogogogo!

Will hopefully return next week with some decent fresh music.
