Just Art

I couldn't think of a more appropriate mix for my first post than Bang Gang's Art Killers from 2004. I'm a bit startled by the fact that it's never been posted before. It's an insane mix of rock, electro, hip-hop, pop and crazy samples. But not like the rest. A careful song selection and the exceptional mixing differs it from anything else anyone has ever done. A must listen.

Art Killers - Ajax and Gus Da Hoodrat

So the biggest weekend for the electrolytes of Sydney has just passed. Justice certainly stood out as the favourite at Parklife - definitely a major step up from their Sydney shows earlier this year at Big Day Out and The Metro, where the mixing was average and the songs weren't their own. This time round, the songs were their own and they proved their ability to put on a show, excite the crowd and exhibit their skills.

Another highlight of Parklife was the exceptional live set from Goose - the sound quality and performance excited me so much, even though I expected a lot from their live at Rock Werchter set posted on DD earlier this year.

So here are two tracks. The airy and 'not-so-Justice' collaboration between Justice and Gambit. And the Surkin remix of Low Mode by Goose.

Loosey Goosey

This just in! Two Goose remixes so fresh your head just might pop. From the latest release single 'Bring It On' (which you can pick up here) here are the MSTRKRFT and Acid Jacks' remixes. Both don't do anything overly major to change the original track, but they do a great job of adding a different flavour to the mix. JFK's mix features some syncopated disco drums giving the song a nice upbeat fun feel that begs for some fancy footwork on the d-floor. The Acid Jacks mix is a bit darker and dirtier, with some nice cut up vocals and synths with added booming bass. Also check out the Boris Dluglosh and Teenage Badgirl remixes of this track. Good stuff!

Hi Kids

Very brief on each artist because this probably is a waste of time :)

Music is sexy, yes? Allow me to put the top shelf bikini model level of sexy on display. For starters..

Goose
The Belgian Presets perhaps? Really cool 80% electro, 20% indie rock, 10% excess. LOL DOESNT ADD UP

!!! (Chk Chk Chk)
Somehow there are 8 people in this band. Although it seems like some pretty serious overkill, they end up with some really solid grooves and very hip tunes with a quirky twist and plenty of variety.

Good Shoes
Good solid guitary indie band who can write tracks that leave a pleasant taste. Not really ambitious or inventive, but if it ain't broke, don't fuck it up. Plus the songs are all relatively short, so they don't get boring.

The Black Ghosts
Disco-indie-electro is the must have fashion accessory this year. Wear TBG.

Any Way You Choose To Give It (Fake Blood Remix) [alt link]

Bugge Wesseltoft
By no means a new artist, but Bugge is seriously good electronic jazz that any good music fan should love. At times very atmospheric and vast, at others tight, bouncy and minimal. Tried, tested and confirmed as perfect beach house music. Bugge rewards patient listeners with chilled out beats.

Switch
Bangin', jackin', bumpin' are just some of the abbreviated adjectives I would use to describe Switch. His simple yet extremely effective style is the same for almost every remix of his that I've heard, but he's got some seriously shit hot deep bass grooves that make me touch myself inappropriately. Two of his more recent

Neon Plastix
Fuck, talk about knowing how to write a killer chorus. I foam at the mouth through the brilliantly anxious verses waiting for my next fix. Like taking The Killers and Kaiser Chiefs, and dipping them in a salty disco topping with synths, punk haircuts and fluro shirts. A quote from the band: "the Neon Plastix try to hold hands with the dance kids whilst huggin' the rock kids! Think of us as SAMUEL. L. JACKSON in the Negotiator and you're not far wrong."
