For a start - Tim Sweeney on Saturday was SO GOOD. Oh man. So refreshing! I'm instantly inspired to spend all my time/dollars record hunting again, none of this digital rubbish! One of his staple tunes seems to be The Rose by The Laughing Light of Plenty, and for very good reason. Bigstereo threw this one up a few months ago but it's well worth a delayed post here - a magnificent build with a whole heap of seemingly invisible energy that gives you no choice but to move. A brilliant song and a joy to hear Sweeney unleash it in the flesh! He sent me pretty schoolgirl..

The Laughing Light of Plenty - The Rose

I just finished a mix for GBH.tv (which I think is going to appear on friday's show) which admittedly was very rushed, but it got me looking through some records I got ages ago on the cheap and kind of neglected straight away. One in particular I'd forgotten about was a Brice Lee tune which I only bought in the first place because it had a Yuksek remix. Personally I think the original is way out in front. Really cool bassline groove, an overall really hot funky party feel. Hoping I find some other gems in my mystery pile.

High Life is a rrreally funky French collab between Askine, Begbie and Daze which I really should have blogged a long time ago. Especially love Too High - a really nice loungey number with some nice warm laid back rhythm guitar. A Kind of Feeling is more typical French House with a nice poppy vocal sample and tight slap bass. Not sure if they're still doing anything together, but fingers are crossed.

Still not going to stop yapping on about Us Two Music and Outcross Records. Seriously, they're the shit. Well Miguel Campbell isn't actually on Us Two, but he and Matt Hughes seem to be pretty tight - from what I can tell - so close enough. Need I say more? This tune is nice easy going soulful burner. Great production, great feel. Etc etc etc. Some new Us Two stuff got sent around today, some Outrunners tunes, go search them out.

The Phantom's Revenge aka the inventor of the 'disco banger' has more more more. Here's one from an upcoming free EP of short-and-sweet songs which, if it's representative of the rest, is going to be a winner. I'm not sure why I say most of this stuff anymore, it's all become quite obvious haha. TPR can't put a foot wrong; his consistency is undeniable. DISCO BANGERSSS!

A couple of bonus songies just because I feel like it. I recently posted the Still Going remix of Anywhere, but I've since switched over to prefering the Compuphonic and Kolombo mix. It's got more character, a livelier feel, cooler sounds - it's just generally more exciting. Not to take away from the SG mix, but this is just more appealing to me right now. Also, I only recently (thanks to Kiyoshi) discovered that the amazing transformation of Da Funk in Alive 1997 is actually an Armand Van Helden remix. I can't believe I'd never stumbled across it before! Anyway, here it is in case anybody else made the same mistake.

More Gimmicks: COMPETITION TIME!

That's right loyal readers, in order to boost the gimmicky appeal of this 'ere blog, we're going to hold our very first competition! In other news, Mr. Oizo's latest offering, Lambs Anger (due out November 17th) is nothing short of spectacular and I can't keep myself from posting a taste. I'm going to go all the way and say it's my number 1 electronic album for 2008, hands down. Serrrriously, this is one album you NEED to buy. Go get a tent and start camping outside your local record store so you can be the first one to get your hands on one of those bad boys. These are a couple of the more upbeat tracks on the album, and certainly two of my favourites. GET EXCITED!

Or France is the old new France? Or something. I've taken a step back into the world of Roulé and delightful memories of the French House explosion are flooding back in waves of ecstasy. How about a revival? I suppose Breakbot is doing a nice job preserving + updating the sound. Any other takers?

Here's some inspiration! Starting with the most obvious and heading down to.... still the most obvious. I feel like a tool, but I was never actually aware these remixes existed. Hopefully they're new to some other ears too, because I was super impressed. Bob Sinclar's mix of Stardust is the cooolest song I could think of sliding down a couch to. Dimitri and Bibi's adds some nice disco chic flavour with Dim's typically wonderful long progression stretching it out to a 10+ minute grooveee.

Bangalter, the glorious man responsible for human existence, put out plenty of great tunes on his label, but my faves are probably his remixes. His super funky mix of Roy Davis Jr's track, already an especially funky number, adds some typical Bangalter awesomeness, whilst the super-slow-to-start over-the-top-filter edit of Braxe's Vertigo breaks into an upbeat energetic bouncy ball. Bring back filter house!

More predictable classics I hear you cry? I like your enthusiasm. Let's go way mainstream with big French duos. Not much needs to be said about any of these, they're all solid gold (I'll take this opportunity to say a massive thanks to the brilliant Solid Goldberger, where i found most of the Roulé tracks!) and proof that just because music is hugely popular doesn't instantly mean it's shit. Cassius are amazing. Daft Punk are amazing. Bangalter/Falcon Supercombo are amazing. Easy.

I'll try and restrain myself after I get this out of my system: I'm guessing a lot of you agree with me (whether you want to admit it or not) that Stuart Price's remix of Four to the Floor was one of the sweetest tunes ever. I remember listening to it over and over when I was 15 or whatever, and years on it still has the same effect on me. C'mon, it's pretty fucking killer, yes? Don't be shy.

Usually I don't post Ben's stuff because within seconds of release it's all over every blog you can find, but this is just too good not to get a piece of the action. Without a doubt one of the best Aussie producers at the moment, and he keeps getting better, which makes me a proud boy.

Less one day, but yay, we've turned 1! I didn't actually intend for readership to extend past two of my friends when it started, so it's been pretty cool watching the blog grow a bit and get some looks. Thanks for reading! Hopefully we'll chug along another year yet, if not more than that.

OK. The Road to Recovery remixes were fucking brilliant. From the original powersynth Miami Horror redazzle to the dark and throbbing D.I.M mix to the insane Curses! power-banger - which has been a staple tune for me since first listen - you've got a broad armoury of amazing tunes. At first I was distraught that SebastiAn never ended up doing the remix he was commissioned to make, but these three are more than enough to compensate.

Simian Mobile Disco really stole my heart in 07. I find it hard to describe what it is about their music that makes them so good. It's so clear and precise and focussed, and generally they sound like extremely good musicians with a real talent for expressing ideas just how they want them. My faves, aside from the Muse remix, have been Wooden and the Presets remix. Both stunning examples of what these guys can do.

Speaking of Muse, the DIOYY? remix of Map of the Problematique rocked my socks in a big big way. About as banging as they come, really. Not much needs to be said, the song explains itself more the louder it's played.

'07 saw the most ridiculously hyped event ever held in Australia - Daft Punk. Within a month of the official announcement, everybody who was anybody (and a lot of nobodys) magically became their #1 fan. I can't think of many music epidemics lasting just a few months that have reached the level of insanity that this did. I may be exaggerating... But anyway, it was of course deserved. Of the stuff on here, I'll re-up a couple of prior loves that aren't as painfully obvious as some others. Check out the Daft Bonanza post too with a bunch of yummy live sets.

The infamous Starfuckers continues to grow and grow into some kind of hideously deformed club monster. Still the best music, crowd and venue in Sydney by a long way. Check out the first Starfuckers mix Neon Nights here, if you haven't already. Many months prior to that though was resident Hookie's LESS HANDS, MORE RAVE promo. Sooo sensationally good. It dominated the car rotation for longer than many, which is no mean feat. Tracklisting is here. I'll also throw in the first thing Trent posted, a unique and astonishing old Bang Gang mix which I otherwise would never have stumbled across.

The blog almost certainly would have slowly dissolved and died if Trent hadn't come to the rescue some months ago. I'm sure nobody denies he is excellent. In particular this post had me questioning my sexuality. The SebastiAn remix of Das Pop... I won't even bother trying to articulate my erotic feelings for that song. The Destroy Disco mix also got me really excited about a new potential electro-producing volcano in Sydney.

Ohh My Head.. (Part 2)

Happy new year all! Hope you're enjoying the staggering hangover and worrying memory loss as I am. Har har. Cutting to the chase, I've heard very little in the last few months that's excited me and have spent a lot of time listening to older stuff. Above fresh and exclusive tracks, my highest priority for DD is posting tracks I consider to be quality tunes, so that's going to be the focus with whatever I can find to post. I'm both concerned and intrigued about where dance music is headed in 2008, though I'm sure things will pick up again soon one way or another.

OK, I am totally in love with the SebastiAn mix Trent posted the other week. Totally. Just to show that I mean business with this whole not being concerned with exclusives thing, here are a couple of quite old SebastiAn remixes, perhaps not as well known as some of his other stuff, which still really float my boat. Both are quite dark and dirty - I love the haunting strings and piano in the Mylo remix, shrouded with a layer of grimy distorted fuzz, and the overly butchered vocals in Walking Machine. Both are vinyl rips, I hope you don't mind.

Admittedly I'm really enjoying the remixes of My People, in particular the D.I.M. mix. He seems to be one producer who has consistently pushed out quality tracks for quite a while now, and this is no exception. Certainly the most club-friendly of the three remixes on the 12", it builds nicely into a mean rhythmic banger. And I guess it can't hurt to throw in an old groovy B-side and a repost of the super fun Hung Up / Down Down Down mash.

To take a momentary breather from glitchy electro, here are a couple of classic housey tunes which I've always had a soft spot for. Check out the very danceable Eric Prydz remix of A Bit Patchy and the uplifting and dazzling Axwell mix of 2 Million Ways. A Light Snack

Man it's been a busy few weeks. Splendour was fantastic, Dystopia is magnificent, winter ending is wonderful and my first DJ gig on Friday was fucking sensational! Sorry to those who emailed me that I haven't replied to, but I've listened to everything I've been sent, and THANKS! Things don't look like letting up any time soon either, so I'll be hard pressed to find the time to post - but rest assured, the very best shit I hear will still be stockpiled and shared to all. For now, I'll at least post a few things to prove I still love you precious readers.

Simian Mobile Disco... They used to leave me a bit confused with their remix work, but I've revisited a bunch in recent weeks as well as heard a couple in a club atmosphere and once again my mind has changed. In particular, I've done a big 180 on their Presets (does anyone else think this song would be perfect on a pirate ship?) and Muse mixes. I've come to the conclusion that with just about every SMD remix, one rule applies: the louder, the better. Hearing both at my average 'chill at the computer, sip a beer, enjoy some tunes' volume, they struck me as being pretty bland and empty. Then, hearing both at clubs a couple of weekends ago at your average 'eyes, lungs, stomach and heart are mere fractions of a decibel away from melting' volume, they turned me into a complete maniac on the dance floor. Take it from me - crank these at illegally loud levels and you will be rewarded!

OK, it's been a while (I think/hope) since I've posted something completely blog-cliche: one of those 'any idiot can post that' kind of tunes.. But I'm quite partial to Justice's mix of 'Lower State' by ZZT aka Tiga & Zombie Nation. Perhaps because it sounds like they just got SebastiAn to do it instead, but just like the SMD mixes it works its ass off in a club! If you don't have it already, quietly download it and pretend you had it weeks ago if anybody asks.

All Aussie Adventures!

Yay! I've got an all Aussie post to flaunt some homegrown talent and brag about how cool our country is. First up, Sydney electro machine Whitenoise is secretly taking over the world with music so crunchy it sounds like a symphony of apples being eaten. Check out his ridiculously good remix of Bag Raiders' 'Fun Punch' which adds some delicious beef to the already fantastic roast vegetables of the original song. What the fuck are these metaphors? I'm hungry.. Anyway, play it in a club and you will be a true hero. Also, enjoy his own banger 'It's What We Do', which will end up on his record coming out on Bang Gang 12 Inches later this year. Exxxxxcellent!

Next up, Candy's Apartment regular chums Hey Now have been darling enough to hook me up with their remix of The Paper Scissors' track 'We Don't Walk'. Disco Delicious certified good-times-for-all tune! It's well worth swinging by whenever they hit the decks to see the strangely attractive boys bring down the walls with hot beats.

I'll take a step back from the club realm for a moment for something a bit more laid back. Another fine Damn Arms remix has swooped into my inbox, this time by Cut Copy/Riot in Belgium. To me it sounds like a nice blend of Cut Copy and Alan Braxe with those gentle warming synths. While I'm at it, it can't hurt to post another old Juggers' remix of the band, so here's their take on 'The Cormorant' which has the classic super punchy bass drum and driving feel that I really love about their sound. And if that can't hurt, then this won't hurt either: the lovely Presets mix of 'Devil Within' from the Juggernauts' debut EP, 'Secrets of the Universe' which is definitely worth having. A great dark mix which has always made me wish the Presets would do more remix work.

I'm very excited to hear that SebastiAn will be whipping out a remix of Midnight Juggernauts' latest tune 'Road To Recovery', to be released on the 12" in "late May". Needless to say, sailvation levels are through the roof. The Juggers are coming up with some great remixes at the moment too, in particular their Kitsune-bound mix of Dragonette's 'I Get Around' (already a great tune to start off with) which has been blogged to death for good reason. Personally, I think anything off the Juggernauts' first EP 'Secrets of the Universe' is more solid than 'Road..', however Melbourne mate Miami Horror has proven it can be transformed into a masterpiece. Just because I love the idea of Aussie music incest so much, there's also a classic mix of 'Down Down Down' to feast on. Check out some more goodies on the Midnight Juggernauts Remixes MySpace.
