Spring Has Sprung!

Only a quicky today, still busy times. I just noticed the new D.I.M. remix of Road to Recovery has popped up on Beatport, and I reckon it's pretty nice. Unlike the Miami Horror remix, it's a complete change from the original with some nice heavy thumping bass. It's at least worth taking a look at. Can't say I know what the deal is as far as a remix 12" for the tune goes, but I'm certainly keeping my hopes up. Here's the 192 mp3 until then.

Midnight Juggernauts - Road to Recovery (D.I.M. Remix)

And I'll throw in another couple of treats from my GhettoRuckus pals. Exciting things are happening for them at the moment, with Hervé showing interest in their producing (the One Inch remix is a response to a request by him) and the HBFS remix featuring on Kissy Sell Out's current chart up at number 11. I can see how it would appeal to Kissy - it's quite his style. Mmmmm, yum.

Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (GhettoRuckus Remix)

Muscles - One Inch Badge Pin (GhettoRuckus Remix)

Don't lose faith - DD will pick up again shortly.

A Light Snack

Man it's been a busy few weeks. Splendour was fantastic, Dystopia is magnificent, winter ending is wonderful and my first DJ gig on Friday was fucking sensational! Sorry to those who emailed me that I haven't replied to, but I've listened to everything I've been sent, and THANKS! Things don't look like letting up any time soon either, so I'll be hard pressed to find the time to post - but rest assured, the very best shit I hear will still be stockpiled and shared to all. For now, I'll at least post a few things to prove I still love you precious readers.

Simian Mobile Disco... They used to leave me a bit confused with their remix work, but I've revisited a bunch in recent weeks as well as heard a couple in a club atmosphere and once again my mind has changed. In particular, I've done a big 180 on their Presets (does anyone else think this song would be perfect on a pirate ship?) and Muse mixes. I've come to the conclusion that with just about every SMD remix, one rule applies: the louder, the better. Hearing both at my average 'chill at the computer, sip a beer, enjoy some tunes' volume, they struck me as being pretty bland and empty. Then, hearing both at clubs a couple of weekends ago at your average 'eyes, lungs, stomach and heart are mere fractions of a decibel away from melting' volume, they turned me into a complete maniac on the dance floor. Take it from me - crank these at illegally loud levels and you will be rewarded!

Muse - Knights of Cydonia (Simian Mobile Disco Remix)

The Presets - Are You The One? (Simian Mobile Disco Remix)

OK, it's been a while (I think/hope) since I've posted something completely blog-cliche: one of those 'any idiot can post that' kind of tunes.. But I'm quite partial to Justice's mix of 'Lower State' by ZZT aka Tiga & Zombie Nation. Perhaps because it sounds like they just got SebastiAn to do it instead, but just like the SMD mixes it works its ass off in a club! If you don't have it already, quietly download it and pretend you had it weeks ago if anybody asks.

ZZT - Lower State of Consciousness (Justice Remix)

And monthly Starfuckers residents Sunday School have finished up a tasty 45ish minute mix with some really cool selections. Again more material to persuade you to come get loose at Club 77 if you're a Sydneysider, or to make the move to Sydney if you're living anywhere else in the world. Check out the track listing here, and make sure you come along to one of their hot hot gigs.

Sunday School - The Gospel According to Sunday School

More to follow once 7 or 8 perfect tunes magically fall in my lap*

All Aussie Adventures!

Yay! I've got an all Aussie post to flaunt some homegrown talent and brag about how cool our country is. First up, Sydney electro machine Whitenoise is secretly taking over the world with music so crunchy it sounds like a symphony of apples being eaten. Check out his ridiculously good remix of Bag Raiders' 'Fun Punch' which adds some delicious beef to the already fantastic roast vegetables of the original song. What the fuck are these metaphors? I'm hungry.. Anyway, play it in a club and you will be a true hero. Also, enjoy his own banger 'It's What We Do', which will end up on his record coming out on Bang Gang 12 Inches later this year. Exxxxxcellent!

Bag Raiders - Fun Punch (Whitenoise Remix) [removed]

Whitenoise - It's What We Do

Next up, Candy's Apartment regular chums Hey Now have been darling enough to hook me up with their remix of The Paper Scissors' track 'We Don't Walk'. Disco Delicious certified good-times-for-all tune! It's well worth swinging by whenever they hit the decks to see the strangely attractive boys bring down the walls with hot beats.

Paper Scissors - We Don't Walk (Hey Now Remix)

I'll take a step back from the club realm for a moment for something a bit more laid back. Another fine Damn Arms remix has swooped into my inbox, this time by Cut Copy/Riot in Belgium. To me it sounds like a nice blend of Cut Copy and Alan Braxe with those gentle warming synths. While I'm at it, it can't hurt to post another old Juggers' remix of the band, so here's their take on 'The Cormorant' which has the classic super punchy bass drum and driving feel that I really love about their sound. And if that can't hurt, then this won't hurt either: the lovely Presets mix of 'Devil Within' from the Juggernauts' debut EP, 'Secrets of the Universe' which is definitely worth having. A great dark mix which has always made me wish the Presets would do more remix work.

Damn Arms - Test Pattern (Cut Copy/Riot in Belgium Remix)

Damn Arms - The Cormorant (Midnight Juggernauts Remix)

Midnight Juggernauts - Devil Within (The Presets Remix)

Finally - how could I post an Aussie showcase without throwing some GhettoRuckus in? Have a jive to their latest mix installment, 'Battered in Baltimore' with steamy tracks by Herve, Goose, Sinden and other cheeky characters. Track listing is here.

GhettoRuckus DJ's - Battered in Baltimore

Oh, and if you haven't already, make very sure you check out Hookie's mix in the previous post. It's been permanently on in my car for the last week, and doesn't look like losing that privilege any time soon.

And now I'm off to Splendour for the weekend. I can taste your jealousy! Be good, kids.

Ohh My Head..

Fuck, after that hectic week I feel like I've been hit by a car. And I would know. Anyway, I'll kick things off with a repost of one of my favourite tunes at the moment at a listenable bitrate plus another nice new mix: the Oizo and Kissy remixes of Calvin Harris' 'Merrymaking At My Place'. It may take me months to get over the awesome grooviness, especially if a 12" release is around the corner that i can jive to in my room. The Kissy remix is more vanilla than I expected, but a more club-friendly tempo than the Oizo mix and it's still an ace song. Drug taking! Drug taking!

Calvin Harris - Merrymaking At My Place (Mr. Oizo Remix)

Calvin Harris - Merrymaking At My Place (Kissy Sell Out Remix)

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the gritty new Passions remix of 'Home Wrecker' by Melbourne indie kids Damn Arms, hopefully with some more goodies to follow. They're supporting the Klaxons while they're over here as well as the Midnight Juggernauts on their Dystopia tour in August, which you really can't afford to miss if you live in Aus.

Damn Arms - Home Wrecker (Passions Remix)

Been getting some great music in the mail, so I guess I'd better post some. My two faves this week have been from Janedge and MESH, from France and America respectively. 'You Sampled That' by Janedge is a powerful driving dirty electro piece, and 'I Want To Start' by MESH is a trippy up-and-down boomer. Both should be played very loud and danced to overly enthusiastically.

Janedge - You Sampled That

MESH - I Want To Start

And finally, a short and sweet mix by Hookie - Starfuckers resident DJ/celebrity/mover and shaker - should motivate you to come visit Sydney's best club night hosted at Club 77. Get the track listing here. Seriously, if you want great music which you clearly do if you're reading this blog *chortle* then fucking go there and don't look back. Unless you value your sundays..

Hookie - LESS HANDS, MORE RAVE!!! Chapter 1

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Hoodies Ahoy!

Going to the snow for a week on sunday, I'm terrified about leaving the blogosphere behind for so long! But I'm sure if I add in some lame phrases like "here's a real winter warmer tune to keep you toasty on those chilly nights" I'm sure I won't be missed.

But seriously, I've had this Kissy Sell Out set on repeat for a few weeks to keep my fingers and toes sizzling (ok, I won't start) which shows off some pretty amazing DJ skills and fantastic song selection. Still haven't found a complete tracklisting for it, and I think anyone who attempts to do one is pretty brave since there are a few points where the mash ups get a bit ridiculous. Somehow Kissy manages to pull almost all of them off with little to no cheese, with some surprisingly good little gems like Hollaback Girl vs Phantom. It's a blazer!

Kissy Sell Out - Live @ Kollektiva Nights 14/03/07

Good friends GhettoRuckus DJ's have popped out a new edit of 'NYC Beat' to add to the collection, and again prove it's a great song to mix up. The title gives the Bag Raiders a run for their money too. Sydney kids beware: it won't be too long before they've taken over the back room in your favourite club.

Armand Van Helden - NYC Beat (GhettoRuckus Gets Lost in LA and Meets 3 Sexy Hookers Who Like KFC Edit)

This is nothing particularly new, but since picking up a 12" copy I've been playing it a lot, and there's a chance it may have slipped by some people. Bag Raiders just keep getting better and better and if the Fun Punch EP ever comes out it should shoot them further into stardom. Muscles is getting some pretty hot gigs too - I'll be seeing him at Splendour in the Grass and Parklife, which are both going to be amazing festivals.

Muscles - One Inch Badge Pin (Bag Raiders Remix)

See you in a week(ish), be good!

Too Slow..

Well bummer, got beaten to the punch by BigStereo, Kidz by Colette and Discobelle, but Plus Move rock my socks so I'll post a couple of the tunes they sent anyway. Actually, I was too slow on a lot of things this week, so if you're not happy that these songies aren't the freshest of the fresh.. I don't care, because I had a massive weekend instead. So worth it.

Mendetz - The Boola (Plus Move Remix)

NSM PSP - Clap Your Brains Off! (Plus Move Remix)

Some more great Bloody Beetroots remixes have been popping up, and my excitement level for their Austrlian tour has multi-multiplied. Here are two massive mixes of tracks by Captain Phoenix and Les Petits Pilous. Ohhhhh the electro crunch!

Les Petits Pilous - Jolie Fille (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)

Captain Phoenix - Pistols and Hearts (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)

Feeling very lazy today, writing shit is a bit of a drag. This song is pretty groovy, just take my word for it. Cicada pulls out nice work on Sydneysiders Pomomofo, yum yum.

Pomomofo - Back At The Club (Cicada Remix)

Finally, make sure you check out this fortnight's ArePeopleReal podcast with special guests Crookers! How I love those Italian sexbags. The show was due on the 5th, so should be up today/tomorrow with any luck.

Lucy In The Sky With Disco

Hopefully all of you are aware of the Bang Gang's upcoming mix album 'Light Sound Dance', which is just days away from its release on Modular, and you are all as excited as I am about it. No tracklisting yet, but music by Switch, Justice, Crystal Castles, DJ Funk, SMD, Midnight Juggernauts, Thomas Bangalter and SebastiAn to name a select few surely gets the juices flowing. If you haven't already sampled their MiniMegaMix, it's strong confirmation that this is going to be a massive CD which certainly no blog reader can live without. Enjoy their many wonderful mixes on Bang Gang Podcast. Can't wait for Saturday!

Bang Gang DJ's - Light Sound Dance MiniMegaMix

And speaking of SebastiAn - you may have heard Blaze Tee's remix of 'D.A.N.C.E.' drifting about the blogosphere, and the very same kind young man has put together a ReRub of Seb's 'UFO' remix (ripped from his Pig Radio set) that is 100% standalone and playable! Oh joyous day! As he's well known and loved for, SebastiAn has ripped the song apart and stitched it up into a huuuge club bomb. Until some kind of official release, this will certainly tide you over. Thanks Blaze!

Sneaky Sound System - UFO (SebastiAn vs. Blaze Tee ReRub)

I really can't seem to find anything else super spicy fresh that's blog worthy, so here's a tune that's been left in the cellar to age for a while... A nice mix of a top Acid Jacks song. It's bit more fucked up than most MSTRKRFT mixes, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Acid Jacks - Awake Since 78 (MSTRKRFT Remix)

Thanks to all those who've sent their music, and sorry if I haven't replied - I've been busy busy. Keep it coming!
