Sorry for the recent laziness. This post will be lazy because I'm lazy. Firstly - I chucked this awesome instrumental Escape From New York edit by DJs In The Sky in that latest mix of mine and it got a stack of interest. So here you go. Take my gem, I don't care. Would definitely recommend hitting up the other Disco Exotique records if you can find them, a real record bag staple.

Who remembers this killer Ashley Beedle tune from a few years back? Man I loved this track. Just rediscovered it the other day as the sun was roasting my loins. I really hope this summer is HOT!

The latest in the Popular People's Front Limited Series is a real corker. Seriously frothing on the bass in this tune. Slightly squelchy, very chubby. Stupid vocoder. Real party styling! Another great record, that's no surprise.

Humid nights mean plenty of Eddie C playing on the stereo. Another great cut off his 2009 Jiscomusic release, You're Welcome, which was a massive fave of mine last year. If you missed this a couple of summers ago don't worry, it's still super fresh!

So I'm thinking of starting up this podcast business this week, although I just realised I don't seem to have any kind of microphone anywhere so it may be sans commentary for now. Can anyone recommend a really good and easy way of doing it? Keeping in mind I've got plenty of server space. Might just put it on SoundCloud to gauge a response before I bother setting too much up.

Oh also, we got our Midnight Savari test pressings yesterday (they sound HOT!) so not long now until DSR002 will hit the shelves! Woop!

Microwavinggg

Yeahhh I've been after this Cookhouse record for aeons since hearing it in Harvey's essential mix - finally, after a couple of dodgy Discogs transactions, it's in my lap and it is indeed a beauty. It's a big club house beefing up of D Train's 'Music' which still smells super fresh. Only problem is it seems the mystery men behind the label tried taking the pump a little too far, and the last section of the tune is clip central. There's a good chance this is the loudest record I've ever encountered.. So unfortunately the sound isn't quite up to scratch. Still, it's one of those situations where the quality of the content outweighs the flaws of the package. Definitely a weapon worth getting your hands on!

The Pudmen - Pud Music

This track has me super excited for the debut release of Luke Million (keys extraordinaire of The Swiss) on Future Classic in September. A bubbly, cheeky, poppy synth disco playsong featuring a vintage Arnie aerobics sample. The synth sounds are to die for, particularly the main bass lick - I expect producers will be foaming. I'd like to say it's been a slow music week but that's not at all true - some ridiculous(ly good) looking releases have popped up, I just haven't got around to listening to anything. Been a bit crook, been a bit lazy etc. and still feeling a bit drained. Anyway I'll just post a few things that I've been thinking about sharing for a while. Such as this magnificent Leo Zero production on The Popular People's Front's LOVE EP. Super funky and soulful with a few little Leo quirks. A total feel-good gospel party jam. I have no idea who actually represents The PPF in the live field, but catch him/her/them/it/who? this Saturday at La Campana in Sydney. More deets. WOOP.

Jimmy Ross - First True Love Affair (Larry Levan Mix)

This is more on the new side. I really love what old mate Prins Thomas has done with this Jacob Korn track which is originally, although playful, a bit aggressive. He's turned whatever darkness was lurking about into warm summer light with his trademark loose-and-legit drumming, some lovely cheerful guitars and jolly whistling synths. Not to say the original is at all bad - no, it's great! - but this really does an all out mood transformation. Nothing particularly exciting or bold happens at any stage in the 13 minute cruise, save for a classic Prins amateur (and cute) drum solo for the last few minutes, but it's just beautiful banana lounge music to soak up some rays to. Ultra pleasant!

Jacob Korn - I Like The Sun (Prins Thomas Diskomiks) [buy]

I've been meaning to post this for quite a while but can never decide what I want to say about it. Is it a fantastic nostalgic gem? Or perhaps it's been a bit overhyped and it's more bland than people are letting on. Anyway it's the first in the Tribute series of special edit records by some unnamed producers *cough Autodisco DJs*. After all this time I'm not sure I feel like having an opinion on it. My record is really warped so it's unlikely to get played anyway.

Recording Records

All 5 records that landed on my doorstep yesterday are total hits, so I'll share the lot. Seriously feels like Christmas every time an order arrives, an excitement that will never get old. Glory's 02 has, in the last couple of months, crept its way up to just about the very top of my favourite records of 2009 chart, so I've been really excited about Leo Zero's next move. Again, this is a really special one! Message Of Love, the A side, features a bold Freddie Mercury vocal and, SERIOUSLY, one of the catchiest basslines I've ever heard in my life. On first listen I literally could not stop singing along with it for the entire 8-odd minutes. Buy this record. Buy everything Leo has touched. Start a Leo Zero church in your neighbourhood, convert everyone on your street. This is excellent music.

Leo Zero - Message of Love (Leo Zero Re-Edit) [buy]

Been really keen to get my hands on this next Fitzcarraldo Variations release, it's so much fun. Cheeky, borderline silly rocky disco seems to be the general theme here. This song makes me picture a bunch of amateur theatre idiots dressed in full body nylon cat suits leaping about in a semi-retarded covert manner. Fantastic! History Clock is truly one of the most obscurely fun labels about.

The Fitzcarraldo Variations - Black Cat [buy]

At first I was a little unimpressed with this Chamboché record I've been reading about... But after a couple more listens I'm warming up to it. The original drags on a bit, but both remixes are quite nice. Going to go with the Pete Herbert mix as my tune of choice since I'm a bit of a sucker for his pleasant and accessible bright-but-not-blinding shimmering disco sound. If you're not looking for a challenge, go for this.

Chamboche - Ipso Facto (Pete Herbert Remix) [buy]

Feeling really lazy at the moment so will breeze through the rest of this. This 4 track Popular People's Front record (original by Rüf Dug + 3 remixes) is the one I was a little unsure about, and turns out it's probably my favourite of the bunch. All the tracks have a twisted kinda tribal feel, really percussive and primitive. The Unabombers remix is my fave, really works the big drum feel hard. A must buy!!

RüF Dug - Dirty (Unabombers Remix) [buy]

Moxie's tribute to MJ is a stunner. I was going to post the big party A side but this edit of Let Me Show You is incredibly beautiful. Probably my favourite memorial that's come out so far, this track is haunting yet soothing at the same time. Very nostalgic, very heartwarming.

Have been sick as a dog for the past week and am finally getting better so letz celebr8 with sum cool traxx k? Have sifted through a bunch of excellent music and have come up with what is a bit of a mega post compared to recent Disco Delish bloggings. Lots of very interesting and lovely music here.

DJ Harvey's Black Cock edits from the 90s - the pioneer of the disco edit craze - are still some of the hippest records out. Some are pretty topsy turvy and whacked out, which is cool, but my fave is definitely still the first, No Way Back. It grooves and burns and rolls like a flaming disco cylinder on a steep hill. All of the Black Cock records were reissued this year so you can get them on fresh wax at tasty prices. Don't miss the opportunity!

Also amongst the disco edits greatness is Betty Botox, who until only a week ago I had no idea was JD Twitch from Optimo. AND I had no idea half of Naum Gabo was Johnnie Wilkes from Optimo! I didn't even know it was two guys. Fucks sake they're busy bees. The Betty Botox edits are instant classics and I realised recently there are more than I had first thought. This is one of my faves, because I'm a sucker for that housey piano sound.

Discovered these H-Track edits a few days ago and golly I'm stoked! Excellent disco cuts on both records released by the awesome online radio station. There's a beautiful selection of different kinds of mixes and stuff including guest mixes from Prins Thomas, Greg Wilson, Todd Terje, Soft Rocks and Pete Herbert! I'm waiting on edits 'disk 1' to arrive to see if they're responsible for the edit of Punkin' Machine's 'I Need You Tonight' which James Murphy/Pat Mahoney used on their Fabriclive mix. HOPE SO.

H-Track - Can't Fake the Feeling [buy]

The Delicate Genius' newish self titled 12" on Aussie label Hole In The Sky has a lot to offer in just 4 tracks. Dunno why but this tune keeps making me think it's going to bust into Work For Love by Ministry. Expertly produced and drenched in original flair, each song seems to have a really clear vision of what it wants to be and is executed perfectly. Check it out for a nice change of scenery!

The Delicate Genius - Pocket Soccer [buy]

I haven't known of Vegard Wolf Dyvik by his new (but real) name or his former moniker Lil'Wolf until his first release on Rong which came out a few weeks ago. I'm clueless but he's alllll the rage in his home country Norway and has made a pretty substantial impact in the techno realm. This track is the dreamier of the three, rising slowly from some tribes in the electronic rainforest up to fluffy cloud city. Pretty.

Vegard Wolf Dyvik - One Of Us Don't Get It [buy]

Georges Vert has a really great refreshing sound. His first EP, Freak D'Espace is another of these pretty little records brimming with lovely sound. And the packaging is all shiny and fancy and cool so bonus points there. This tune is nice lush deep nu disco to get you sinking deep into your lounge. I don't quite get why both the A side tracks are remixes by other people but they're quality. Track it down.

Georges Vert - Garden of Lies [buy]

Been trying to get my hands on a digital copy of 40 Thieves' Beats In Space EP to no avail, so this space is left blank. Anybody know if it's available or if it'll happen? I'm spending more than i can afford on records, need to control myself.

Last but not least, The Popular People's Front produce a hot hot hot version of a tune I heard for the first time recently on Dirty Space Disco. This one is way upbeat and jammin, and just gets funkier as it goes on. Lurve when the gee-tar rocks on in and rogue synths start busting out all over the shop. PARTIE YO.
